North Carolina woman says calls data center promise to build a park ‘an insult’

Forsyth County is being asked to gamble on a data center company that has never built one before, critics of the controversial project say.

A local resident said Drox was founded in 2025, has no public record of building a data center, and is pursuing the project without a committed tenant.

She argued Drox Group gets to chase billions in profit while neighbors are left with the potential costs: more noise, higher utility bills, lower property values, and health and environmental risks. And the company’s proposed tradeoff? A park.

“This is not compensation. This is not accountability. This is an insult.” she said.

Data centers will create jobs and help to power artificial intelligence (AI) in the US, supporters say, but they come with concerns about the environment and energy usage.
