Republicans in the General Assembly could be on the verge of overriding Gov. Josh Stein’s 2025 veto of Senate Bill 50. If successful, this would allow permitless carry in North Carolina, increasing access to guns in the state.
Stein vetoed the bill last year.
For Ahoskie Mayor Weyling White, this issue is personal.
White has lost a cousin and friends to gun violence, and is speaking out against a veto override because he says it will make rural communities like his less safe.
“Gun violence is not an abstract issue for me. It is personal. It is painful,” White said at a press conference in Raleigh on Tuesday. Take a look.
