Who says that Democrats and Republicans can’t agree on anything? 

We begin today’s Good News Friday with a bill moving through the North Carolina legislature that tackles social media use among younger children. The legislation, which has the support of both parties, aims to cut off certain apps that are known for their addictiveness.

There’s mounting evidence that some apps are associated with an increased risk of mental illness for children.

As Cardinal & Pine contributor Karishma Desai noted in our guide to Pride Month in North Carolina, Pride Month was formally recognized in 1999 when former President Bill Clinton issued a proclamation. 

Clinton’s record on LGBTQ+ rights was complicated. He was a Southern Democrat who, just three years earlier, had supported a national ban on same-sex marriage.

He later described that ban as a mistake, capturing the evolution America has gone through on gay rights. 

We’re in a turbulent moment right now for LGBTQ+ rights, with many organizations facing pressure to back off their support for Pride. 

That won’t be happening at Cardinal & Pine. Ever. Happy Pride Month to all who celebrate.
