North Carolina’s first Buc-ee’s location now has a 2026 date set for its construction site groundbreaking.

Originally founded in 1982 in Texas, Buc-ee’s convenience stores are known for clean restrooms, a wide range of food offerings and massive store sizes. While most of the chain’s original locations are located within Texas, it has expanded, with four new stores set to open outside of its original state this year alone.

Previously, the Asheville Citizen Times covered the announcement that the store’s opening was moved from late 2026 or early 2027 to late 2027. A recent report from FOX8 has added another crucial detail to the mix: the date that the groundbreaking ceremony is set to occur, officially beginning construction on North Carolina’s first Buc-ee’s.

Is there a Buc-ee’s in North Carolina?

The Mebane Buc-ee’s will be the state’s first location. Currently, the chain has stores in Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

Recently, a Buc-ee’s spokesperson told FOX8 that a groundbreaking ceremony would be held for the Mebane location on June 10. The Mebane Buc-ee’s opening, which was previously planned for late 2026 or early 2027, will now occur in late 2027, according to previous reports.

  • Goodyear, Arizona: June 2026
  • Benton, Arkansas: September 2026
  • Ocala, Florida: 2026
  • Monroe County, Georgia: Early 2026
  • Mebane, North Carolina: Late 2026 or early 2027
  • Huber Heights, Ohio: April 2026
  • Boerne, Texas: 2026
  • San Marcos, Texas: May 2026

Where is the first Buc-ee’s in North Carolina?

The site of N.C.’s first Buc-ee’s store is 1425 Trollingwood-Hawfields Road, Mebane, NC 27302, near the merger of Interstates 85 and 40. Southern Living reported that the new location will measure in at a sprawling 75,000 square feet, with 120 fueling stations and more than 600 parking spaces planned.

The publication also reported that, in anticipation of traffic congestion, the company agreed to provide between $6 million-$11 million in N.C. Department of Transportation-mandated improvements to Trollingwood-Hawfields Road.
