Video: Western NC still lacks funds to rebuild after Helene

More than a year after Helene tore through western NC, a state lawmaker talks about the lack of recovery funding from the state and federal governments.

A year and a half after Hurricane Helene, Western North Carolina has still only received a fraction of the $60 billion needed to recover from the storm.
As a result of the slow distribution of recovery funds, State Rep. Lindsey Prather of Buncombe County says many people in the region have left and some remain without permanent homes and may never get their homes rebuilt.
“There are many, many people who are never going to have their house rebuilt, and it breaks my heart to say that,” she said.
