Free health care clinics hope to bridge the gaps as the loss of Affordable Care Act credits drives up the number of uninsured people in North Carolina.

With hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians impacted by rising costs of Affordable Care Act plans and uncertainty surrounding Medicaid expansion, free health care clinics find themselves on the front lines of providing care to the state’s rising uninsured population.

One program supporting the uninsured is AccessHealth, which includes 18 community-based networks across the state.

How the loss of Affordable Care Act tax credits is affecting North Carolina

Cape Fear HealthNet, one of the 18 networks, provides healthcare access to uninsured residents in New Hanover, Brunswick, Pender, and Columbus counties.

To be eligible for their services, your individual or household income must be no more than 300% of the federal poverty level.

Once enrolled, you can reach out to clinics who partner with the organization, as well as seek care. Cape Fear HealthNet enrollees can also receive care at Novant Health hospitals as part of their Charity Care program.
