Looking for ways to get involved in your community, volunteer for an important cause, or advocate for policies that will affect you and your family? We have you covered in this week’s action guide.

Across North Carolina, there are many opportunities to have an impact on the issues impacting you and your family. From public education to voting rights, there are events taking place in a community near you that will allow you to take action.

This week’s guide includes both in-person and virtual events so that you can participate in a way that is most convenient for you. 

Friday, April 17

Engaged Defenders for Democracy – ICE Is Not Welcome Here! Cary ICE Office (9:00 am-11:00 am)

Join peaceful protesters in Cary as they stand on the sidewalk on the corner of Evans and Centrewest Court to protest ICE policies against immigrants outside of their local offices.

Volunteer at Fuel Your Family’s Health Event (9:00am-3:00pm)

New North Carolina Project is looking for volunteers to help set up, and manage a National Health Awareness Month Community Event in Charlotte.

The State of Our Democracy: Road to the General Election 2026 (11:00am-1:00pm)

Attendees will learn about efforts to protect voting rights in North Carolina, coalition building, and voter participation.

Each week, members of the community in Chatham County gather to protest the Trump administration and ICE raids.

Rage Against The Regime Gate City BLVD Edition! (11:00am-12:00pm)

Guilford County Indivisible is holding a Saturday protest in Greensboro against the Trump administration.

Sunday, April 19

Southern Sundays for Peace: Rocky Mount (12:00-2:00pm)

Hosted by: Engaged Defenders for Democracy

Join Engaged Defenders for Democracy in Rocky Mount. They will be hosting their weekly pro-democracy protest and invite the community to join them. Positive signs are requested.

Tuesday, April 21

2026 NC Public Education Advocacy Day (9:00am-2:00pm)

Hosted by: Red, Wine, and Blue, Every Child NC, Pastors for NC Children

Location: Edenton Street United Methodist Church – 228 W Edenton St, Raleigh, NC 27603

Education advocates will gather in Raleigh in support of NC public schools. Attendees will have the opportunity to advocate for public education, teachers, and students at the General Assembly.

Alamance Open House (1:00-3:00pm)

Down Home’s Alamance County chapter is hosting their monthly open house, providing an opportunity for members of the community to learn about their work, meet their neighbors.

Wednesday, April 22

Cary Earth Day Potato Drop (9:00-11:00am)

On Earth Day, help those in need in the Cary community by bagging and delivering potatoes in the community.

“The Root Of Good Health” Documentary Premiere and Panel Discussion (6:00-7:30pm)

Hosted by: Carolina Forward, Beacon Media, Resource Rural

Location: Museum of Natural Sciences WRAL Theatre, 11 W Jones St, Raleigh, NC 27601

Come out to watch the premiere of this documentary highlighting a program that connected Medicaid recipients in North Carolina to non-medical resources like rental assistance, groceries, and transportation. The event will also include a panel discussion.

2026 NC Elections Funding/Early Voting Advocacy Training (6:00-7:15pm)

Common Cause, along with other advocacy organizations, is hosting a virtual event about North Carolina elections and how you can play a role in ensuring they are fair and accessible for everyone.

Thursday, April 23

Central Piedmont Coalition Meeting (6:00-7:30pm)

Residents of Forsyth, Guilford, Rockingham, Rowan, and Alamance counties are invited to come out in Winston-Salem to learn about building community and the fight for democracy.

Alamance Hour of Action (4:00 pm-5:00 pm)

In this edition of a weekly peaceful protest, residents of Alamance County will be marching on Thursday, April 16 in support of democracy in downtown Burlington. 

Cole Park Pop-Up (5:00-6:00pm)

Residents in Chatham County are making their voices heard as part of a weekly protest at Cole Park.

G4A People Power: Our Schools, Our Future (5:45-7:30pm)

Attendees will learn about how parents and members of the community are organizing in support of public schools in Guilford County.

Fighting Federal Vouchers to Protect Public Schools (7:30-8:30pm)

Hosted by: Red, Wine, and Blue

Location: Virtual

Learn from public school advocates about efforts to divert money meant for public schools to private schools.
