Some in the rural NC town of Canton are fighting the possibility of having a local data center after losing the paper mill that sustained the town’s economy for 115 years.
Introducing a song inspired by the new Canton-centered documentary “Papertown,” singer-songwriter Dave Matthews said the mill was shut down after a new owner decided it would be more profitable to close it and push production to other facilities. He said the decision left the North Carolina community “pretty broken up.”
