Your guide to Pride, get out the vote efforts, and more, June 12 – June 18

This week we’re keeping you up to date on celebrations of pride, protests, and voter turnout efforts in communities across the Tar Heel State.

As pride month continues, we’re making sure you are up to date on events happening in communities near you. There are several recurring and new protests happening that you can attend to make your voice heard.

As the midterm elections draw nearer, we are also making sure that you are informed about ways to get involved locally in making sure your neighbors have the opportunity to have their say in our democracy.

As always, we’ve included events both in person and virtual so everyone has an opportunity to be involved.

🗓 Friday, June 12

Engaged Defenders for Democracy – ICE Is Not Welcome Here! Cary ICE Office (9-11 a.m.)

Host: Engaged Defenders for Democracy

Location: 140 Centrewest Court, Cary

Join peaceful protesters in Cary as they stand on the sidewalk on the corner of Evans and Centrewest Court to protest ICE policies against immigrants outside of their local offices.

Greenville-Pitt County Pride Festival (10 a.m. – 2 p.m.)

Host: Emerge Gallery & Art Center, community sponsors

Location: A Time for Science – 226 West 8th Street, Greenville

Start your weekend by celebrating Pitt County’s LGBTQ community through art, dance, and events for everyone.

Flip The Schoolboard, Fund Our Schools! NH4A Community Canvasses (10 a.m. – 1 p.m.)

Host: Carolina Federation

Location: Provided upon registration

Carolina Federation is hosting a canvass this Saturday to bring awareness to local education issues imparting New Hanover County. This will give you the opportunity to speak with your neighbors about these issues and the upcoming midterms.

Winston-Salem Pride Parade (11 a.m. – 12 p.m.)

Host: Winston-Salem Pride

Location: 4th St. & Marshall St, Winston-Salem

Join your neighbors in Winston-Salem and celebrate pride with a morning parade.

Rage Against The Regime Gate City BLVD Edition! (11 a.m-12 p.m.)

Host: Indivisible Guilford County

Location: 3608 W Gate City Boulevard, Greensboro

Guilford County Indivisible is holding a Saturday protest in Greensboro against the Trump administration.

Franklin Community Canvass (11a.m.-2 p.m.)

Host: Down Home NC

Location: 113 Jolly St, Louisburg

Join Down Home North Carolina in Louisburg on Saturday, June 13 as they go out into the community to speak with their neighbors about the issues concerning them.

Flip NC Judicial Canvass (12-2 p.m.)

Host: Indivisible Guilford County, Flip NC

Location: 3001 Battleground Ave, Greensboro

One of the most important races on the ballot in November will be the North Carolina Supreme Court election. In Greensboro, you have an opportunity to speak with your neighbors about the court and why it matters.

Wake County Indivisible hosts Registration Repair (2-4 p.m.)

Host: Wake County Indivisible

Location: Fortnight Brewing Company – 1006 SW Maynard Rd Suite A, Cary

Join Wake County Indivisible at Fortnight Brewing as they reach out to members of the community through a letter writing campaign. Letters are being written to people whose voter registration forms are incomplete or have mistakes.

Pride in the Park (4-10 p.m.)

Host: Town of Cary

Location: Downtown Cary Park – 327 S Academy St, Cary

Friday afternoon and evening, the Town of Cary is celebrating the LGBTQ community as Pride Month continues.

Gastonia EbonyFest Juneteenth Kickoff (5-10 p.m.)

Host: Advance Carolina

Location: 1624 Spencer Mountain Rd, Ranlo

Advance Carolina is hosting a celebration of Black history through music, history, and community ahead of Juneteenth. 

🗓 Sunday, June 14

Southern Sundays for Peace: Garner (12-2 p.m.)

Host: Engaged Defenders for Democracy

Location: U.S. 70 & Mechanical Boulevard, Garner

Join Engaged Defenders for Democracy in Garner. They will be hosting their weekly pro-democracy protest and invite the community to join them. Positive signs are requested.

Southern Sundays for Peace: Rocky Mount (12-1:30 p.m.)

Host: Engaged Defenders for Democracy

Location: Rocky Mount Mill, 1151 Falls Road, Rocky Mount

Join Engaged Defenders for Democracy in Rocky Mount. They will be hosting their weekly pro-democracy protest, and invite the community to join them. Positive signs are requested.

Huntersville Pride (1-6 p.m.)

Host: Beer Money Entertainment and Rhythm and Exposure

Location: 201 Huntersville-Concord Road, Huntersville

Huntersville’s second annual Pride is taking place on Sunday June 14. Join your neighbors in celebration of the LGBTQ community. 

We Love Democracy Shindig (2-4 p.m.)

Host: Bully City Indivisible

Location: Provided upon registration

Join Bull City Indivisible as they celebrate American democracy as we approach the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Attendees will learn how they can support democracy ahead of the midterms.

🗓 Monday, June 15

Statewide Faith Leaders GOTV Kickoff (7 – 9:30 p.m.)

Host: NC Black Alliance

Location: Virtual

Join faith leaders and people from across North Carolina as they discuss the importance of the upcoming midterm elections and why voting and encouraging people to vote will be important this year.

🗓 Wednesday, June 17

Greater Triangle Coalition Meeting (6-7 p.m.)

Host: Democracy North Carolina

Location: Virtual

Residents of Wake, Johnston, and Harnett counties can attend this virtual meeting to learn more about organizing and uplifting the voices of the community.

🗓 Thursday, June 18

Alamance Hour of Action (4-5 p.m.)

Host: Alamance Hour of Action

Location: 1388 S Main St, Burlington

In this edition of a weekly peaceful protest, residents of Alamance County will be marching on Thursday, June 4 in support of democracy in downtown Burlington. 

Resilience for the Fight Ahead: Session 1 (6:30 – 8:30 p.m.)

Host: Indivisible CLT

Location: Virtual

This is event is for those currently involved in activism and those who are looking for a way to get involved and learn more about how they can fight back against attacks on democracy.
