Dave Boliek, the Republican state auditor who oversees election officials, has recently pressured county boards of elections to move early voting sites away from college campuses, where voters tend to favor Democrats. But students are not the only voters using campus early voting sites.
Add in all the teachers, workers, and surrounding businesses, and college campuses are essentially small towns, Brooks Fuller, the policy director of the voting rights group Common Cause NC, said at a press conference in Raleigh this week. And campus early voting sites are often the only place all these voters can easily cast their ballot.
