Taking action in North Carolina as America celebrates its 250th anniversary, July 3 – July 9

250 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, North Carolinians and America will commemorate the day through activism and celebration.

Saturday, July 4th will mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. North Carolinians will commemorate the occasion with events, protests, and other ways to take action across the state.

This week, we’ve included events across the Tar Heel State you can attend as America celebrates its semiquincentennial.

🗓 Friday, July 3

July 4th (on the third) parade in Spruce Pine (5-7:30 p.m.)

Host: Mountain Indivisible

Location: 128 Roan Rd, Spruce Pine

Celebrate Independence Day (a day early) in Spruce Pine. Mountain Indivisible will have a float in the parade and is encouraging people to attend the celebration. Note: this is a non-political event and non-political signs are requested.

A Declaration of Resistance – Chapel Hill (9:30-10:30 a.m.)

Host: American Friends Service Committee Quaker Engagement

Location: Chapel Hill Friends Meeting – 531 Raleigh Rd, Chapel Hill

Celebrate Independence Day with the spirit of resistance.

July 4 Bridge Brigade (9:30-11 a.m.)

Host: Engaged Defenders for Democracy

Location: Broad St and I-85 bridge, Durham

Join Engaged Defenders for Democracy as they gather in Durham to protest in the spirit of America’s founding.

July 4th Bridge Protest – Defend Democracy (10 a.m.-noon)

Host: Fayetteville Resistance Coalition

Location: 195 Poe Ave, Spring Lake

Gather in support of democracy as North Carolinians protest in solidarity with many other Americans.

July 4 Bridge Brigade (9:30-11 a.m.)

Host: Engaged Defenders for Democracy

Location: Broad St and I-85 bridge, Durham

Join Engaged Defenders for Democracy as they gather in Durham to protest in the spirit of America’s founding.

Belmont Popup Protest (10-11 a.m.)

Host: Indivisible

Location: Provided upon signup

Join Indivisible in Belmont for a protest this Saturday. This is a peaceful protest, and attendees are asked that any signs they bring not contain profanity.

Rage Against The Regime Gate City BLVD Edition! (11 a.m-noon)

Host: Indivisible Guilford County

Location: 3608 W Gate City Boulevard, Greensboro

Indivisible Guilford County is holding a protest Saturday in Greensboro against the Trump administration.

SPEAK OUT NOW (11a.m.-noon)

Hosted by: Indivisible Chatham County

Location: Provided upon signup

Each week, members of the community in Chatham County gather peacefully against corruption and the Trump administration.

Watauga Community Canvass (11a.m.-2 p.m.)

Host: Down Home NC

Location: Provided upon signup

Join Down Home North Carolina in Watauga County on July 4th. Spend Independence Day speaking with members of the community most impacting them and their families.

Flip NC Judicial Lit Drop (noon-2 p.m.)

Host: Indivisible Guilford County, Flip NC

Location: 3001 Battleground Ave, Greensboro

One of the most important races on the ballot in November will be the North Carolina Supreme Court election. This July 4th, you have an opportunity to speak with your neighbors about the court and why it matters.

Voter Registration in Durham (3-5 p.m.)

Celebrate democracy and Independence Day by helping register voters in the Bull City.

A Declaration of Resistance – Charlotte (5-6 p.m.)

Celebrate Independence Day with the spirit of resistance in Charlotte.

Southern Sundays for Peace: Garner (noon-2 p.m.)

Join Engaged Defenders for Democracy in Garner. They will be hosting their weekly pro-democracy protest and invite the community to join them. Positive signs are requested.

Southern Sundays for Peace: Rocky Mount (noon-1:30 p.m.)

Join Engaged Defenders for Democracy in Rocky Mount. They will be hosting their weekly pro-democracy protest and invite the community to join them. Positive signs are requested.
