Republicans in the General Assembly are expected to expand the state’s private school voucher program by $465 million in the coming weeks.
S.Y. Mason-Watson told Cardinal & Pine the voucher program is diverting money that could have been used for NC’s public schools, which are poorly funded compared to nearly every other U.S. state.
“To decimate the well of funding for public schools is one of the most egregious things that has been done through this voucher system that the General Assembly has enacted,” she told Cardinal & Pine.
