Video: Jefferson Griffin moves closer to overturning his election defeat in North Carolina

By Staff Reports

April 7, 2025

The North Carolina Court of Appeals ruled in favor of Judge Jefferson Griffin’s effort to toss out over 60,000 ballots in the race for the North Carolina Supreme Court.

This would reverse the 734 vote victory by current Democratic Justice Allison Riggs, whose win was confirmed by two separate recounts after the November election.
The court gave the impacted voters 15 days to provide more information to state elections officials (such as a driver’s license number and Social Security number) so their ballots can count. If you have a driver’s license in North Carolina, you can do so by filling out an updated voter registration form registration form here.
If you don’t have a driver’s license, print a voter registration form from here, fill it out, sign it, and return it to your local board of elections as soon as possible. You can find your local board of elections address and contact information here.

Riggs has already appealed the ruling to the state Supreme Court, where 5 Republicans and 1 Democrat will vote to decide the outcome of the election. Riggs, who is on the court, recused herself from the case.
She says today’s decision by the Court of Appeals “sets a dangerous precedent, allowing disappointed politicians to thwart the will of the people.”
