Unfortunately, the only blame for this lies squarely on the Republican Party stoking those fears and fanning the metaphorical flames of discontent across North Carolina. Conversations that could have once found common ground are more commonly filled with accusations and screaming matches, and somehow, this is supposed to be acceptable to the folks who live here.
Former president Donald Trump has a long history of clashing with military families and US veterans. The newly convicted felon, who famously evaded the Vietnam War draft, has even reportedly called slain US soldiers “losers” and “suckers.”
While Bishop has often voted in ways that benefit his donors, there is no direct proof that he voted how he did specifically because of those donations. However, there is evidence to suggest that lawmakers in general are, at minimum, more focused on issues that matter to high-dollar special interests.
