As in Charlotte, the federal immigration enforcement agency says they are pursuing dangerous criminals, but most of the people arrested so far are people without past convictions or a history of violent crime.
Cardinal & Pine’s team is on the ground tracking this developing story, so make sure you are following us on social media for the latest.
In the meantime, Cardinal & Pine’s Michael McElroyreported that Raleigh Mayor Janet Cowell was expecting immigration enforcement operations to begin in the city Tuesday morning.
Cowell said the city did not request Border Patrol in NC’s capital city. Video of their activities began surfacing on the web soon after that.
Federal officials want us to see ICE and Border Patrol as extensions of law enforcement. But the agencies are very different from the police and deputies who work in your communities.
This week, I took a few minutes to explain the big difference between them and how that is impacting local communities in NC right now. Check it out and please share.

The historic Shiflet airfield was left underwater by Helene in 2024. A fundraiser this week aims to help them get back off the ground. Literally. (Carolina Aviators Network)
As anyone who’s been through a disaster knows, recovery is a sentence, not a word. It takes time, effort, money, and a refusal to quit.
The historic Shiflet airfield in Marion has had to have a lot of that since Helene left it underwater in 2024. A third of the runway was submerged for weeks after.
On Saturday, Carolina Aviators Network is planning a fundraiser to help the privately-owned airstrip. It’s one of three NC events we’ve highlighted in our new edition of “3 things happening in NC.” Check it out.
