‘Gas isn’t the only thing that’s up’: After gas tax cut, NC House leader says state legislature hasn’t done enough

On Wednesday, the North Carolina House and Senate voted to suspend the state’s 41-cent gas tax through Nov. 30.

House Democratic Leader Robert Reives, who represents Chatham and Randolph counties, supported suspending the gas tax but expressed frustration that the Legislature, controlled by Republicans, wasn’t doing more to address the cost-of-living crisis.

“Gas isn’t the only thing that’s up. Groceries are up. We could have addressed that today. Utility bills are up,” Reives said.
