If youโ€™re currently a student at Duke University who calls North Carolina or South Carolina home, hereโ€™s some good news: The Durham university announced Tuesday that it will provide local undergraduate students whose family income totals $150,000 or less with โ€œfull tuition grants.โ€

According to WRAL News, grants will officially go into effect โ€œin the fall 2023 semester.โ€ The university also announced that any student from NC or SC with a family income of $65,000 or less will receive additional financial support in the form of meals, housing, and course materials, among other benefits. Per the university, this support will be provided โ€œwithout the need for student loans.โ€

Freshmen, sophomore, junior, and senior undergraduate students from North Carolina and South Carolina may qualify for the opportunity. According to Duke, these students โ€œwill receive financial aid statements by July 1 that reflect the new commitment.โ€

The Dean of Trinity College of Arts & Sciences, Gary Bennett, spoke with WRAL News about the decision. โ€œAttending college can expand a familyโ€™s opportunities for generations, and we aim to make the Duke experience as widely accessible as we can,โ€ Bennett said.

Forbes noted that around 340 students at Duke University can expect to receive benefits through this new program.
