March 26, 2026

With “No Kings” protests returning to North Carolina March 28, some locals got started early. Cardinal & Pine talked to one protester in Wake County about what they’re hoping for.

Two separate “No Kings” events last year drew more than 12 million people total across the country, but organizers think this weekend’s could be the biggest protest in the nation’s history.

This past Saturday, several protesters got an early start, gathering on an overpass above 440 in Wake County and fixing signs to the fence urging the cars below to show up on the 28th.

John Sperath, who owned a construction business in Raleigh before he retired, said he was at each of the first two “No Kings” protests. He learned that the key to not feeling overwhelmed is to “find a thing and dedicate yourself to that one thing.”
