The Town of Nashville will use a $1.3 million grant to construct a new fire station, as the current one is shared with the police force and lacks adequate space. The new station will be constructed on a 4.5-acre site on the east side of town, providing expanded services to 5,352 citizens and reducing response times.
These grants will go towards creating jobs in six counties across the state of North Carolina: Chatham County, Pitt County, Wayne County, Halifax County, Stanly County, and Nash County.
While certain federal benefits won’t be impacted, a government shutdown would affect a number of other benefits that rural communities rely on, such as food and housing assistance.
A new report outlines rural policy recommendations focused on four major tenets: protecting people’s freedom to live and work safely; investing in infrastructure; reining in corporate greed and protecting workers, small businesses, and family farmers; and creating opportunities for a better future.
