People in the LGBTQ community don’t always have a welcoming family during the holiday season. “Eat, Gay, Love” invites anyone searching for a good meal and a welcoming community on Thursday.
Here’s an opportunity to celebrate Thanksgiving and Charlotte’s queer community at the same time.
Queen City Nerve and Billy Sunday are partnering for an inclusive Thanksgiving get-together for the LGBTQ community on Thursday.
The 5th annual Eat, Gay, Love Thanksgiving dinner maintains a mission to “spread love and food to the underserved LGBTQIA+ community.”

Anyone in search of community is welcome to join the dinner at no cost from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m., and guests can register beforehand to ensure their seat.

Brian DuBois—a bartender at Billy Sunday and the original organizer of “Eat,Gay, Love”—told Spectrum News in 2022 that “the holidays are a hard time for people who don’t have community, and the queer community is often not welcome around their family.”
Even though Dubois had an accepting family, he said he couldn’t bear the thought of others being on their own, and in 2019 began a new Thanksgiving tradition for the queer community.
The partners are also teaming up with Block Love CLT, a nonprofit that serves daily dinner and twice-a-week breakfast to community members experiencing homelessness, and all leftover food from the dinner will be donated to their effort.
