The problem with zoos is there is no problem.
Assuming they are ethically run, zoos are better than birthday cake and spring breezes. We love them too much. Animals are more likable than people. They’re entertaining to kids. And I like to imagine them talking about us when we leave the room.
Just me? Oh well.
On that note, here’s a bit of fresh fun from the Greensboro Science Center, a nonprofit aquarium, museum, and zoo in the Triad.

Meet Jeff. He’s weird looking, but cute. And if you didn’t know (I didn’t!), he’s a fossa. This cat-like creature, which is native to Madagascar, is sort of like a little cougar. But, ya know, not terrifying.
Check him out next time you’re visiting the Greensboro Science Center, and say hi! Here’s what else we have for you this Monday:

How 7 North Carolina Republicans helped set the stage for Jan. 6

Donald Trump lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden by more than 7 million votes.
But three years ago, Trump’s lies that the election was stolen prompted thousands of his supporters to break into the US Capitol, assault police officers, and threaten to hang his political opponents.
Ultimately, 147 Republicans—including seven of North Carolina’s 10 members of Congress at the time—voted against certifying the election on Jan. 6, after the mob had been cleared from the building.
C&P’s Michael McElroy holds them accountable in a new piece.

Vice President Kamala Harris will be in Charlotte Thursday to discuss the Biden administration’s efforts to curb gun violence.
The vice president’s visit comes after a series of shootings in the city, including one that left 5 people wounded on New Year’s Eve.
This marks the ninth time Harris has visited the state since taking office. Keep an eye on Cardinal & Pine for updates on the vice president’s trip.
