We’re making progress, but the work is far from over. Every life lost to fentanyl is one too many. The fentanyl crisis doesn’t have one simple cause – nor does it have one silver bullet solution. That’s why I’m using every tool in my arsenal to tackle it. As Governor, I will keep working across the aisle to pursue common-sense solutions to the fentanyl crisis.
During the first quarter of 2024, there’s also been a 13% drop in aggravated assault, according to the FBI. Murder and rape both decreased by about 26%. Robbery decreased by 18% and property crime declined 15%.
A bipartisan effort helped test nearly 12,000 older rape kits since 2019, leading to positive IDs on thousands of assailants and a sense of closure for many sexual assault survivors.
The "Beyond Executions" event this year commemorated the lives of 43 people executed in NC. The last person executed in NC was Samuel Flippen in August 2006.
In Fayetteville, three community members—Lisette Rodriguez, Shawn McMillan, and Angela Malloy—have teamed up to reform their city's public safety system, arguing that the current system of policing and methods of crime prevention are not making the community safer or reducing crime as intended.
