Asheville Watchdog is a free, local, not-for-profit, nonpartisan news organization. It was founded in 2020 as a public service by veteran professional journalists and media executives living in and around Asheville, North Carolina. Our operations are supported entirely by contributions from the community.

NC Local is a nonpartisan, nonprofit news organization helping people in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties understand how statewide issues and government decisions affect their communities.

Kristine Gill is a freelance writer and editor based in Ohio with a background in newspaper journalism and public-sector communications. 

Iliana Santillán is an immigrant from Mexico, founder of the movement group Brava NC, and a statewide leader advancing civic engagement and political power-building in North Carolina. She is a collaborator on Beacon Media’s Latino community media project, El Faro. 

Jacob Brooks is a writer, comedian, and advocate. He is the N.C. Director for Patriotic Millionaires, a nonprofit focused on tax and wage reform.

Braxton Winston is president of the North Carolina State AFL-CIO, the federation of unions of working people in North Carolina, representing over a hundred thousand union members working together for good jobs, safe workplaces, workers’ rights, consumer protections, and quality public services on behalf of ALL working people.
