Public libraries in NC’s capitol county are investing in memory care kits that help people connect with family and caregivers.
Wake County libraries are expanding a free program that helps people with memory loss connect with their families, friends, and caregivers.
Memory Care Kits // Wake County Libraries
Wake County Public Libraries now has over 90 themed Memory Care Kits. Each kit can be checked out for up to six weeks and includes six books, a marker set, and a folder of activities. The new kits also include an alternative book set specifically for people with dementia.
Some themes you can choose from include:
- The 1940s and 1950s
- The 1960s and 1970s
- Americana and Travel
- Food, Cooking, and Baking
- North Carolina
- Dogs in Costumes
- Natural Wonders and Night Skies.
Over 350 kits have been checked out since the program’s debut in May 2022. Librarians hope these kits are a “low-stress and enjoyable” activity that engage the mind and help people connect.
To check out a kit, reserve one online one week in advance, and choose one of the 23 locations where you can pick it up. All you need is a library card, which is available for free to all Wake County residents.
