Protesters chanted “Racist maps make racist reps” outside a NC legislative meeting ahead of Republicans’ vote to gerrymander the state’s Congressional maps again.
Protesters chanted “Racist maps make racist reps” outside the North Carolina Senate Elections Committee in Raleigh on Monday, Oct. 20, 2025, ahead of a vote on the new GOP-backed congressional map.
The maps were gerrymandered by Republican leaders to help Republicans and President Trump fare better in the 2026 elections.
They were escorted out of the committee room following their act of nonviolent resistance. For more coverage of North Carolina news and politics, paywall-free, sign up for our award-winning, daily newsletter.
