By Staff Reports

July 25, 2025

On Thursday morning, hundreds of Durham residents came out to protest Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in the city, after ICE agents were reported near the courthouse Wednesday.

According to advocates, the agents were trying to detain a person who was due to appear in court. Demonstrators were expecting ICE to return Thursday, although no agents were spotted. For the latest reporting on this important story, click here.

Local immigration rights activists are expecting a continued escalation of ICE presence in American cities, owing partly to the massive budget increase the controversial federal agency received in President Trump’s “One, Big Beautiful Bill.”
