As the NC Supreme Court considers invalidating the votes of 60,000 North Carolina voters, Cardinal & Pine’s Dylan Rhoney explains why this is such a big moment in the state’s history.

In what could be a major moment for democracy and judicial independence, the NC Supreme Court has put a hold on the certification of the election of one of their own.

It means that the Republican-controlled court could be poised to give the election to the Republican candidate, Judge Jefferson Griffin, despite the fact that Griffin appears to have lost to his Democratic opponent, incumbent Justice Allison Riggs.
