If you think the cicadas are noisy this year, wait for the ‘great Southern brood’ to invade North Carolina in 2024.

The sound of summer in North Carolina is the buzz of a cicada.

We all know that. But what makes the cicadas buzz? And why are they so loud one year and more quiet the next? As part of our new “Billy Ball Explains NC” series, Billy takes on these big, noisy insects.
