From a smart home in Raleigh to an oceanfront oasis in Oak Island, discover the spectacular North Carolina homes featured on HGTV.

HGTV broadcasts a slew of TV shows focused on home improvement, design, and real estate, from “House Hunters” and “Love It or List It” to “Beachfront Bargain Hunt” and “My Lottery Dream Home.” Episodes of these shows are filmed in diverse locations throughout the world, including many cities and towns in North Carolina.

We researched the numerous North Carolina homes that have been featured on HGTV throughout the years and highlighted the best of the best below. Keep reading to learn more about each home, what show it was featured on, and what makes it unique.

1. HGTV Dream Home 2006

Every year, HGTV builds or renovates a home to give away as part of its Dream Home sweepstakes. A new location is chosen each year, and the Dream Home for 2006 was located in Lake Lure.

Each Dream Home comes fully furnished and decorated with a specific theme. The Lake Lure Dream Home—located about 36 miles from Asheville on a peak of the Blue Ridge mountain range—features a casual mountain living design that reflects its surroundings. The 5,154-square-foot home has five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and boasts breathtaking views of Lake Lure. Natural materials like wood and stone complement the rustic-chic style of the home.

The winner of the home, Donald P. Cook, sold it within about a year to developer Land Resource Companies, citing high taxes and costly upkeep. It was sold again in 2009 and 2015. According to Zillow, the home isn’t currently for sale. The real estate marketplace company estimates its valuation to be approximately $1,903,100.

2. A Shore Place

The 2024 season of HGTV’s “Battle on the Beach“—a competition show during which teams mentored by design experts renovate beachfront homes for the chance to win $50,000—was filmed in Oak Island.

“Oak Island is so charming… The area and people were so welcoming. Everyone was thrilled about us being there for the show. They were super awesome. I would definitely go back,” mentor Taniya Nayak told TV Insider.

The winning home, A Shore Place, is a four-bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom beachfront property with a custom seashell fireplace, an oceanfront deck with a built-in fire pit, a chef’s kitchen, and floor-to-ceiling windows that highlight the panoramic ocean views.

3. HGTV Smart Home 2022

Wilmington was the location for the 2022 HGTV “Smart Home,” another sweepstakes-style show in which a winner is gifted a home designed for smart living. The waterside three-bedroom, three-bathroom home, built in 2021 by Charter Building Group and designed by Tiffany Brooks, is nearly 3,000 square feet and located in a private gated community.

In addition to a wraparound porch, inground pool, and outdoor kitchen, the Carolina-coastal-style home features plenty of high-tech features, including a multi-sensory showering system, a smart lighting system, VELUX solar skylights, smart appliances, and a climate-controlled package drop-off area in the garage.

“This year’s home is a luxurious waterside oasis, encompassing dream-like design with smart living that will provide the winner with the best of all worlds. Leaning into the city’s outdoor lifestyle, HGTV Smart Home captures the essence of Wilmington with sophisticated coastal design and solutions from the kitchen to the outdoor garden that will enhance the lifestyle of the modern homeowner,” Brooks said.

According to Zillow, the home was sold for $1,370,000 in 2024.

4. HGTV Smart Home 2016

The 2016 HGTV Smart Home is also located in North Carolina. This 3,300-square-foot, cottage-meets-craftsman-style home, located in Raleigh, features four bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms, a media room, and an exercise room spread throughout three floors.

Built by Homes By Dickerson and designed by Brooks, this home has no shortage of high-tech features. An automated smart home system allows homeowners to control everything from the skylights and the fireplace to the lock on the front door with an app. Wall-mounted charging docks wirelessly charge electronics, and digital controls can be used to adjust the water flow and temperature in the master bathroom’s shower.

“It’s so luxe—and smart! The shower learns your preferred settings,” Brooks said.

According to Zillow, the home isn’t currently for sale, but it has an estimated market value of $1,347,500.
