It’s Friday and that means a weekly dose of good news. This week we’re talking generational wealth, lots of fun, and amazing bagels.

Happy Friday y’all! We’re sending you into the weekend the right way – with some much needed good news out of North Carolina. It’s our weekly Good News Friday roundup.

Raleigh is One of the Best Cities for Black Families to Build Generational Wealth

Kindred, by Parents magazine, is an online community dedicated to supporting Black families with community news and information. Their board of experts analyzed the best cities in the U.S. for Black families and, in terms of wealth building opportunity, Raleigh, N.C. is one of the best places.

They mention a report from Axios, which documented a 3.9% increase in Raleigh’s Black homeownership rate from 2019 to 2021, almost doubling the 2% national increase.

Raleigh, again, has a lot worth mentioning. If you get the chance, stop by Benchwarmers Bagels on East Davie Street. Bon Apettit placed them on their list of best bagel spots outside of New York and I’m drooling over the menu – mainly the Duck Rillette, and Avocado Garlic

After three years of waiting, 12 Educators of Excellence, who were named that by the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, were finally able to take their programmed trip to Yellowstone National Park.

It was canceled three years in a row due to the pandemic and flooding, but they finally made it and will bring all they learned back to their students.  They visited geological wonders, observed huge concentrations of wildlife, talked with field experts, and if you want to read about it, they blogged the whole thing!

According to a Wallethub study, North Carolin is in the top 15 most fun states, and for good reason

There were 26 key metrics they used to rank “fun per capita” (1= most fun, 25 = average amount of fun), and North Carolina came in 8th for restaurants, 9th for fitness centers, 10th for golf courses, 16th for amusement parks, 19th for movie theaters, and 29th for performing arts theaters.
