Good News Friday: NC A&T’s putting on ‘the greatest homecoming on Earth’

Every week, we round up the best good news in NC. This week, we have a flattering report on NC’s climate for women entrepreneurs, and a special week for one of the state’s biggest and best historically Black colleges.

Durham Bus Rides FREE Until June 2024

GoDurham, the public transit system of Bull City, is FREE for all passengers until June 2024! Passengers can use Google Maps or download the Avail myStop app to find their bus. Once on board passengers can use the buses’ free Wi-Fi until they reach their destination.

The City Council approved the free bus fares in the 2023-2024 budget cycle. To get involved with next year’s budget planning, keep an eye on Durham’s public hearing calendar. 

NC 2nd Best for Women Entrepreneurs 

North Carolina is one of the top states for women entrepreneurs!

A report from Wells Fargo measured the economic impact of women-owned businesses in each state, ranking North Carolina in second place.

The reason our state performs so well?

According to the report, “North Carolina provides various services, including access to financing, training, and marketing support.,” The report continues: “and continues on to say, “ Its employment and revenue share rank it in the top 10 women-owned businesses.

GHOE, or A&T’s “Greatest Homecoming on Earth,” is more than a football game or your average university homecoming. It is a full week of concerts, performances, community involvement, and HBCU pride.

This weekend closes out the 97th A&T homecoming with a sold-out football game (Aggies vs Tigers), a concert headlining Summer Walker and Lil Durk, and an Aggie Fanfest hosted by the City of Greensboro. 

“The Wall That Heals” Arrive in NC

The Wall That Heals is a traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. and will be in Havelock, NC until Monday, Nov. 5.

The memorial has been displayed in 700 communities across the country to allow veterans and their families to visit the Wall in their own communities. This Veterans Day, Nov. 11, marks the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War’s end.

If you are unable to visit the memorial in Havelock, it will be in Nags Head from Nov. 16-19.
