The North Carolina-based doughnut gods want to sweeten the deal for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Vaccines will eventually return us all to normalcy, but until then they’ll get you a free donut.

Krispy Kreme, a famed doughnut-maker founded in Winston-Salem, has announced that if customers have at least one dose of any COVID-19 vaccine, they can get a free glazed donut every day until the end of the year.

“To show our support for those who choose to get vaccinated,” the company says on its website,  “starting Monday, 3/22, anyone who shows their COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card will receive a free Original Glazed® doughnut.”

With an offer like that, Krispy Kreme could help boost vaccine numbers toward the promised land of herd immunity.

Now, sure, there are some restrictions on these donuts, but let’s not take our eye off the prize, people.

The offer is good only at participating locations, but nine of the 11 Krispy Kremes currently open in NC said they were. (The other two just didn’t answer the phone. Come on people! This is breaking news, answer your phone!)

You do indeed have to show your vaccination card. An “I got my vaccine” sticker won’t cut it. But, don’t worry, the company said, no one will take a photo of your card or take down any of your information. You just need to show the card each day for each donut.

And none of this sharing vaccine cards business. This isn’t Netflix. One donut per person per vaccine card per day. The offer is not for online orders, the company said, only in person.

So while doctors, health officials, science and just in-general neighborliness gives us plenty of reasons to get the vaccine, Krispy Kreme has sweetened the deal. (Get it? Because donuts.)

Now, if you are still struggling with the decision to get a vaccine, or have simply not gotten an appointment yet because of high demand, you can still get a free donut (and a coffee) on Mondays until May 24. And May is a big month. President Biden has said the plan is to have enough vaccines for every adult in the US by then.

That’s a lot of donuts.
