It’s Super Bowl weekend, but that’s not all that’s going on. Here are 5 fun things you can do this weekend all across North Carolina.
Valentine’s Murder Mystery Show (Newton): Feb. 10
The Newton Performing Arts Center is ringing in the Valentine’s Day season like no other with an interactive wedding turned murder-mystery theater experience. While dinner tickets are sold out, you can still experience the show with dessert and champagne for $30. The show is three hours long and doors open at 7:30 p.m.
Valentine’s Day Photos at the Feathered Farm (Zebulon): Feb. 11
Bring family, friends, or your sweetheart for a day of photos and snuggles with the animals at The Feathered Farm. You can feed the chickens, cows, and goats, play with mini-pigs, hold bunnies, and take pictures with their Shetland pony. Tickets are $13.50 (plus a booking fee and tax) for everyone over two years old, while infants under the age of two can get in for free. Guests are free to explore the farm at their own pace from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Mardi Gras on Middle Lane (Beaufort): Feb. 11
A little different than the New Orleans Mardi Gras, Beaufort’s annual celebration is just the place to discover the true quirkiness of this riverfront town. It may be the “shortest-parade in NC” but there will be costumes, the Sweet Potato Queens (a group of 40- to 70-year-old women performing choreographed routines), Cajun food, music, and face painting. Join the fun from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.!
Super Bowl Watch Party: Feb. 12
While some people are referring to Sunday as a Rihanna concert with a side of football, the Super Bowl is an opportunity to be around family and friends—or strangers at your local brewery. Check out Queen Park Social in Charlotte for a day of bowling, wings and beer, the Durty Bull in Durham for trivia and food trucks, or any sports bar near you!
NC Museum of Art – Cloud Chamber: (Raleigh)
If you’ve never been to the NC Museum of Art it’s worth a visit (and it’s free). It’s the largest museum campus in the United States, with a steady rotation of exhibitions and events inside, and sculpture installations for you to explore on their trails. The Cloud Chamber for the Trees and Sky is an interactive installation that looks like a hobbit-house, but is actually a camera obscura. When you enter the “house” and close the door, the surrounding environment is projected onto the walls, giving the illusion that you are walking through the trees and clouds .
