It’s the first full weekend of 2023 and if your New Year’s resolutions include taking part in more fun activities, we’ve got you covered.

From goat snuggles to an opportunity to support local songwriters, here are five fun things you can do this weekend across North Carolina.

S’mores with Goats, Chapel Hill: Now Through Jan. 29

Spring Haven Farm is celebrating winter with goat snuggles, horses, and s’mores. There’s also a crafts station with a rotation of artsy activities, like building birdhouses or painting flower pots. Schedule your arrival time between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and stay until close!

329 Miles: Corals and Conservation, Hickory: Now through Jan. 29

The Catawba Science Center, along with artist, conservationist, and scuba diver Shari Regenbogen Ross, are coming together to save the reefs! Attend free program events like creating a community coral-reef inspired art piece, “Expedition Reef,” and “Cocktails, Corals, and Conversation” to learn more about this biodiverse (and endangered) ecosystem.

Kinky Boots @ Thalian Hall, Wilmington; Jan. 6, Jan. 7

Inspired by true events, Kinky Boots is a six-time Tony Award-winning musical that celebrates friendship and big dreams. The Friday show starts at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday show opens at 2 p.m. in downtown Wilmington at Thalian Hall. This is one of the oldest theaters in the US, and has been running since its opening in 1858.

Live Music & Food Trucks @ Blue Blaze Brewing, Charlotte; Jan. 7

Ngyuen’s Noodles is pulling up to Blue Blaze Brewing Co. this Saturday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.! After that, Matt Perrone will be playing live music for everyone to enjoy until 8 p.m. Blue Blaze Brewing is a family-owned brewery located on the West End of Charlotte that combines a love of local beer and the great outdoors. Whether you drive or arrive by the Stewart Creek Greenway, you’ll find yourself right at home.

Western Carolina Writers’ Showcase, Asheville; Jan. 8

Since 2019, Western Carolina Writers has showcased the talents of local, up-and-coming writers at venues across the western area of the state. This year, the program features nine singer-songwriters at The Grey Eagle Music Hall. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 6!
